I really liked the book "The Urban Gardener-How to Grow Your Own Food in the City." It covered lots of the questions that I had about growing a garden in the city and what it took to do so. I will keep this book handy for important information on many topics of growing your own garden for future use. Things such as the benefits of growing your own food, container gardening, vertical gardening, indoor gardening, rooftop gardening and community gardening.It covered the different containers you can use in your garden and for what plants. It even had a section of The Urban Farmer's Calendar. I was surprised that this book covered so many topics on gardening.
The book wrote about what to do in dealing with pests and plant diseases, harvesting and storing your food, building raised beds, planning and planting your food, weeding, mulching and watering the plants.
I have always been worried about plant diseases and what to use on the plants if they became diseased. This book told of even how to prevent diseases from happening in the first place. There was even a section on harvesting and storing your food. This book also covered how to prepare your garden for next years crop.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating on whether they would like to grow their own food or even gardeners that just want to know a bit more about gardening in general. I gave it four stars because it wasn't a complete book on how to grow a garden in the city. Gardening is a very vast subject,but was an overview of what to expect when planning, growing and taking care of the ins and outs of different ways to garden.
